Grease Connections

Used Cooking Oil Recycling & FOG Compliance — Florida, Georgia, New Jersey

I’m going to tell you what happens when someone who actually understands legal compliance, local SEO, and service industry operations walks into a used cooking oil business and says “I know how to make this work.” Because that’s what happened when Jorge Argota came on board as Co-Founder and Chief Marketing Officer at Grease Connections, and the results have been something I couldn’t have built on my own no matter how good the operations side was.

I know the grease business. I know the trucks, the routes, the refineries, the container logistics, the driver schedules. I know how to pick up 200 gallons of fryer oil at 4 AM without waking up a single hotel guest and how to get a manifest signed before the hose stops gurgling. What I didn’t have was someone who could take all of that operational capability and turn it into a digital presence that actually generates business at scale. That’s what Jorge built.

What Jorge Brought That Nobody Else Could

Before Jorge, I’d talked to marketing agencies. The grease industry has plenty of them and they all say the same things; “we’ll build you a website, we’ll run some ads, we’ll get you on Google.” But none of them understood the business. They didn’t know what a FOG ordinance was. They didn’t know that Miami-Dade requires a Grease Discharge Operating Permit from DERM or that gravity traps have to be cleaned every 60 days. They didn’t know that restaurants can get fined $2,000 per day per FOG violation or that service manifests have to be kept on site for a year. They didn’t know any of it and they didn’t care to learn it because to them it was just another client with a budget.

Jorge came in with something nobody else had; ten years of working inside a law firm as both a paralegal and the marketing director. He spent a decade at Percy Martinez’s medical malpractice practice in Miami building their marketing from a $500 budget to one of the highest ranking legal practices in Florida, across four cities, outranking Morgan & Morgan. And the whole time he was doing that he was also working the paralegal side, handling intake, understanding case economics, learning how compliance documentation works from the inside. When he looked at our business he didn’t see grease; he saw regulatory compliance, local ordinance targeting, geographic SEO, and a content strategy that nobody in our industry was executing at the level it deserved.

Building the Grease Connections Brand

Jorge built our entire digital presence from the ground up. I’m not talking about a website with a phone number on it. I’m talking about a content ecosystem that covers every county we serve across Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey with location specific pages that actually rank. Pages that explain the FOG ordinances in each jurisdiction, that walk restaurant owners through the compliance requirements they’re facing, that show them what happens when they fail a DERM inspection and what to do about it.

Our Florida Grease Regulation Resource Hub; that’s Jorge. The county specific FOG compliance content; Jorge. The blog posts that rank for searches like “how to dispose of used cooking oil in Florida” and “FOG compliance Miami-Dade” and “restaurant grease disposal fines”; all Jorge. He built content that references actual Florida statutes, specific county codes like Miami-Dade Section 24-42.6, real fine structures, EPA Part 279 manifest requirements, the works. And he did it in a way that doesn’t read like a legal brief; it reads like someone who actually understands the restaurant owner’s situation and can explain what they need to do in plain language.

AI Search Optimization Before Anyone Else Saw It Coming

Here’s something most people in our industry haven’t even thought about yet and Jorge was already building for it. AI-powered search is changing how people find businesses. Google’s AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity; these tools are pulling information from websites and presenting it directly in search results. If your content isn’t structured in a way that AI can read, interpret, and cite, you’re invisible to the next generation of search.

Jorge understood this before most marketing agencies were even talking about it. He built our content with structured data markup, schema implementations that tell search engines exactly what our services are, where we operate, what our credentials are, and how our compliance documentation works. He structured our pages so that when someone asks an AI assistant “who handles FOG compliance in Miami-Dade” or “where can I recycle used cooking oil in Tampa,” our content is what gets pulled into the answer.

And it’s not just about technical markup. The content itself is written to be AI-friendly because it directly answers the questions people ask, with specific data points, real regulatory citations, and clear attribution. Jorge built our author bios, our E-E-A-T signals, our source citations into every piece of content because he knew that Google’s quality evaluators and AI systems both reward expertise and authority. He’s been studying Google’s Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines and building content that meets those standards while our competitors are still writing generic service descriptions that say the same thing every other grease company’s website says.

Most companies in our space won’t realize AI search matters for another two or three years. By then, we’ll already own those results because Jorge started building for it now. That kind of forward thinking is what happens when your marketing person actually reads the documentation instead of just following whatever trend showed up on their LinkedIn feed last week.

Review Management and Removal

This is another area where Jorge’s legal background gives us an edge that nobody else in the grease industry has. Online reviews can make or break a service business and in our industry it’s even more critical because restaurant owners talk to each other, they check Google before they switch providers, and one bad review or a competitor planting fake reviews can cost you real accounts.

Jorge built our entire review management strategy from the ground up. He knows how to identify fake reviews, he knows the exact Google policies that determine what can and can’t be removed, and he knows how to document violations and escalate removals through the proper channels. His success rate on legitimate policy violations is around 90% because he approaches it the way a paralegal would; documenting the evidence, matching the review to the specific policy it violates, and building a case before submitting it. Most people just hit the flag button and hope for the best. Jorge builds an actual case file.

But removal is only half the strategy. Jorge also built our review generation system; how we ask for reviews, when we ask, what the follow-up looks like, how we respond to every review in a way that builds trust and signals authority to both potential customers and to search algorithms. At Percy Martinez’s law firm he built a review profile from practically nothing to 98 reviews at 4.7 stars, competing directly against Morgan & Morgan who had a 1.0 rating in the same market. He understands that reviews aren’t just social proof anymore; they’re a ranking factor, they feed into AI search results, and they’re one of the first things a potential customer sees before they ever visit your website.

And when competitors tried to sabotage Percy’s listings with spam reports and fake reviews across four cities, Jorge was the one who traveled to each location, photographed real signage, documented physical presence, and fought every false flag until they were resolved. He brought that same mindset to Grease Connections; our review profiles are monitored, our responses are strategic, and when something illegitimate shows up we handle it with the kind of documentation and process that most marketing agencies don’t even know exists.

The Environmental Story as a Business Strategy

One of the smartest things Jorge did was connect our compliance story to our environmental story in a way that actually resonates with restaurant owners. Every gallon of used cooking oil we collect gets recycled into biodiesel and renewable diesel. That oil becomes low-carbon fuel that powers transit buses and eventually sustainable aviation fuel. We cut lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 86% through that process. Those are real numbers and they matter, but most restaurant owners don’t wake up thinking about carbon intensity scores.

What they do wake up thinking about is whether their grease trap is going to cause a problem, whether the county inspector is going to show up, and whether they’re going to get hit with a fine they can’t afford. Jorge built our content strategy to lead with the pain point; the FOG compliance fear, the fine avoidance, the manifest documentation; and then connect it to the environmental impact as the bigger story. “A compliance report replaces a citation, and a rebate replaces a plumber’s bill.” That’s how Jorge frames it and it works because it meets restaurant owners where they actually are instead of where we wish they were.

Three States, One Content System

We operate across three states now; Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey. Every state has different regulatory frameworks, different hauler licensing requirements, different compliance documentation standards. New Jersey classifies used cooking oil as a Class D recyclable and only A-901 licensed firms can collect it. Georgia’s EPD requires a manifest trail for every gallon of FOG moved off site. Florida’s requirements vary by county and some of them are stricter than others by a wide margin.

Jorge built content systems that address all of this at the local level. Not generic “we serve Florida” pages but actual county and city specific content that explains the regulations, references the right statutes, and positions Grease Connections as the company that handles compliance for you. Our bilingual content for the Miami market; that’s Jorge understanding that 70% of Miami-Dade speaks a language other than English at home. Our hurricane preparedness content about our 170 mph rated containers; that’s Jorge understanding that Florida’s climate creates specific operational challenges that need to be addressed in the marketing. He built our IoT sensor messaging, our blockchain manifest positioning, our rebate calculator content, our oil theft prevention guides, all of it connecting back to the core value proposition.

Where We’re Going

Jorge is expanding his own operation now to take on additional clients beyond Grease Connections, and I think that’s the right move because what he’s built here proves the model works. The used cooking oil and grease management industry across the country is full of companies that have great operations and terrible marketing. They’ve got the trucks and the drivers and the processing capacity but their websites look like they were built in 2008 and their content strategy is nonexistent. Jorge is the person who can change that for them because he’s already done it for us.

From my side, I can tell you that having Jorge as a co-founder has been the difference between being a good regional operation and becoming a company that competes at a national level across three states with a digital presence that generates leads in every market we serve. The operations knowledge I bring and the marketing, AI optimization, review management, and compliance expertise he brings is a combination that I haven’t seen anywhere else in this industry, and the results sitting in our analytics dashboard and our lead pipeline confirm it every month.

If you’re running a service business where local regulation drives customer decisions; grease management, waste hauling, environmental services, really any compliance-adjacent industry; Jorge understands how to turn that regulatory complexity into a marketing advantage. He did it in legal. He did it in grease. He’s building for AI search before anyone else in the space. And he’ll do it for whoever is smart enough to bring him on next, or at least that’s been my experience working alongside him every day.
